Delete your Wild Unlocked account
Last updated 26 October 2026.
This page is for the Wild Unlocked app, made by Sam Compton, a sole trader in the UK. You can delete your account and its data in the app, or ask us by email without the app.
Delete it in the app
- Open Wild Unlocked and sign in.
- Tap Settings (the cog, top right), then Account.
- Tap Delete my account, then Delete account and cloud data.
- Tap Delete account to confirm.
Your account and everything backed up to it are deleted straight away. This can't be undone. Walks on your phone stay there, so you can still see them. To remove those too, uninstall the app or clear its data.
If the app is in Young explorer mode, a grown-up needs to switch it back to Adult mode first (this needs their PIN).
Ask us without the app
Email privacy@wildunlocked.com from the email address you sign in with, with the subject "Delete my account". We'll reply to that address to check the request came from you.
If you can't use that address any more, tell us your display name and roughly when you joined. We'll then send a confirmation to the account's email address. We will never ask for your password, a sign-in code or ID documents.
What we delete
Your account and sign-in details, your profile (name, username, home area, birth month and year, interests), walks and routes, sightings, notes, photos, favourites, private areas, community posts and the photos in them, your helps and reports, your Ask AI questions and usage counts, your email preferences, and your beta access.
We also remove your email from our homepage beta and updates list. If you still want updates, you're welcome to sign up again on our homepage.
What may be kept, and for how long
- On your phone: anything still on your device stays until you delete it, uninstall the app or clear its data.
- Backups: we make an encrypted backup every night and delete each one after 30 days, so your data may stay in a backup for up to 30 days after you delete your account. The backups are stored with GitHub, and only we hold the key to unlock them. We only use them to restore the service if something goes wrong.
- Our providers: xAI keeps Ask AI requests for up to 30 days, then deletes them. Brevo, which sends our emails, keeps a record of the emails we sent you (your address, the subject and whether it was delivered) for up to 3 months. If you ask us by email, we'll delete that record straight away. Cloudflare keeps short-lived technical logs.
- Spam checks: scrambled (hashed) internet addresses from sign-up checks are deleted after about a day.
- Legal reasons: we don't currently keep anything for legal reasons. If we ever had to, for example in a dispute, we'd tell you what and for how long.
How long it takes
In the app, it happens straight away. By email, we aim to finish within 7 days of confirming it's you, and always within one month. We'll email you when it's done.
Young explorer
Young explorer mode has no account, so there's nothing to delete on our side. What's recorded in it stays on that phone or tablet. To remove it, clear the app's data or uninstall the app.
Delete some data but keep your account
- Walks, sightings, notes and photos: delete them in the app. They're removed from your account when the app next syncs with our servers, then permanently deleted from our servers about 30 days later.
- Community posts: delete a post and it's removed straight away, and its photos within minutes.
- Your profile: change or clear details in Settings › Account › Edit profile.
- Emails: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or email us.
- Anything else: email privacy@wildunlocked.com and tell us what you'd like deleted.
